The Division of Local Government Services Training Program is warning local governments to be aware of fraudulent invoices being sent to applicants before Planning and Zoning Boards throughout NYS.

The Local Government Training staff has been receiving an increased number of reports of fraudulent activity surrounding land use review in communities across the state. These invoices appear to come from the municipality for increased project review costs.

ATTENTION PROPERTY OWNERS

The Town of Copake and Columbia County will be working together to update the property data and photos used by the
Copake Assessor. Data Collectors from Columbia County Real Property will begin field work in a couple of weeks by visiting each property in Copake to update and photograph inventory. In some cases, this can be done from the public right-of-way. In most all cases, it will be necessary for them to knock on the door before taking new measurements or accessing the rear of a property. At no time will a data collector ask to go inside your home. Please note that visits by appointment are not possible. The collectors and car will have proper Columbia County ID.

This project could take up to two years to complete.
